The You Yangs Protection Group was formed over 20 years ago to protect the iconic and beautiful You Yangs Regional Park.

In 1992 we began as a small bank of converned residents.

The number of concerned members of the community involved in the Group has grown considerably as developers try to make inappropriate large scale changes to our anemity in and around this area.

In 1992, there was a proposal for the City of Greater Geelong's Rubbish Tip to be relocated to the North side of Great Circle Drive, on the boundary of the You Yangs Regional Park.

Needless to say we fought long and hard to prevent this from happening and we enjoy the You Yangs with its iconic landscape to this day without an ugly rubbish tip on its boundary.

From that fight, Geelong Transfer and Resource Recovery Centre opened in 1994, recycling and green waste bins followed, with Geelong Residents being one of the best recyclers in Australia - not only helping our region, but the flow on effect for the environment.

We are a passionate group - keen to protect this precious area.  If you wish to get involved, offer any assistance or sponsorship or have any queries please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
